Silk Fusion

All are framed with archival mats and backing and are under glass with top of the line metal frames. Most are mounted to Arches Cover printmaking paper.

I recently started working with silk fusion, and I fell in love with the process. My time is divided between silk fusion and felted wearable art. I work in my studio about ten hours a day, four days a week. I own an art gallery and spend three days a week there. Art is about the only thing I do.

Natural Disasters

Mount St Helen’s volcano was the first natural disaster that I experienced up close. More recently the fires in California, especially Paradise where I lived as a child, left me saddened by the devastation and the loss of lives. It seemed fitting to express my feelings in this series of work.

“Natural Disasters” is a series of work done using silk fusion, also known as silk paper. It is a process using silk slivers adhered together using a medium. I have added gold, silver and copper to some of the images. Yarns, fabric and found objects are prevalent in some of the pieces. I love this medium. It is filled with surprises which forces my creativity. I am excited by light and dark patterns and using those to create rhythm in my work. These abstract pieces are a deviation from the realistic human figures that I have always worked with. The bottom line is all about composition, the most important element in any art medium.

"It Takes a Village"

I'm working on this new series of silk fusions titled, "It takes a Village". Travelling though life, there are many hilltops and valleys, light, and dark areas, highs and lows, colorful, cheerful years and the times of pain and struggles. What we cannot do alone, we can do together. It takes a village.
